This iconic limiter has been an industry mainstay since 1967. You’ve heard it on almost every record ever recorded. It’s fast and responsive, with a unique character caused by its FET solid-state circuitry.
Our KA1776 is a precise emulation of that circuit, with all the controls and sound of the hardware. And then we doubled down.
We put two of them together in one plug-in, to give you even more routing options. Run the KA1776 in stereo, dual mono, and M/S. You can even set it in serial—one unit feeds into the other—giving you all sorts of double compression and compression/saturation options.
We’ve also included a comprehensive visual display to help you precisely set your controls and speed-up training your ears to hear the nuances of this wonderful limiter, and extract full creative control from it.

Original 1176 Controls, Faithfully Emulated
We maintained the spirit of the ’76 by precisely emulating its topology and all of the original controls: Input (sets the threshold) Output, the meter display, and the reversed Attack and Release knobs.

Selectable Ratios and British Mode
The KA1776 has selectable ratios from 4:1 to 20:1. But there is also the iconic “British Mode”: all four ratios selected for massive compression full of artifacts and character.
Saturation
FET Saturation with Attack Off
Switching Attack to OFF turns the KA1776 into a pure FET saturator—no compression, just gnarly tone and noise. And we’ve made it tweakable with an extra control.

I love the 1176 clone in my Allen&Heath consoles when mixing live, especially for into-the-face vocals and mean rock drums. I think the KA1776 can do a similar thing in a DAW, and it’s also to my knowledge the first 1176 clone available for Linux.

When you think that you have enough 1776 emulations… this happens! I didn’t expect to be surprised, but I really am. KA1776 can finally deliver solid snap while also giving great saturation that doesn’t blur the transients. It’s very rare in the plugin world. KA1776 opened my eyes to how a software compression can sound. After over 20 years with audio software, I’m finally happy with a compressor plugin. Amazing.

Please, pretty please?? Now, in all fairness, you have the El Juan limiter which actually looks like a plugin and not something that’s going to spill off my screen onto my desk (Do you hear that, Pumpkin Spiced Latte?).
Lurking in the shadows are the Puff Puff Mix Pass and the WOW thang. If I pulled those up on my screen my friends would disown me thinking I had just turned on some kind of video game in the middle of a session! In a different category of plugins we have the AIP and PGD… Woof, where to start?? They both look like something designed by an audio engineer who is still recovering from a psychotic break.
So I see the KA 1776 as a glorious return from what could have been seen as approaching the edge. HaHaHa!! By the way, If you are new to this site and these plugins, they all work great and your girlfriend or wife will love them but be prepared for some seriously arched eyebrows in your studio!!
I’m mixing a bunch of songs that I’ve written over the last few years and I’m busy putting the KA 1776 everywhere I used to have other compressors in LUNA.

I previously owned the wa76 warm hardware and it took a while after selling it to find a substitute in the box. I landed on the uad 76 plugin collection. I gotta say, the Korneff 76 surprised me easily beating the uad on vocals, both mellow and rock. The korneff has way more available compression that holds up. It also has more grit if U want it. Sounds more open. Less pinched. Uses less CPU and less latency than ua. Best 76 in the box yet. Demoed and bought immediately.

This thing sounds great! Even though I have plenty of 1176’s I decided to demo because it’s Korneff, so it’s different. Instantly replaced the others.
