Magnetic tape is known for imparting warmth and bottom-end girth to a signal. Chocolate Milk does exactly that, using adjustable waveshaping algorithms to give you more control of bottom-end saturation. But it goes beyond that.
Analog tape also clips transients, and that takes away punch and clarity—we didn't want that. Our Chocolate Milk puts the squeeze on the midrange using a clean compression algorithm with adjustable attack and release to get compression without clipping the signal. With Chocolate Milk you can punch it up like a boss.
In the old days, engineers would tweak tape deck electronics to sweeten the high end. It sounded good, but it was difficult to do and limited. With Chocolate Milk, you can easily get glossy highs, and far more effectively.

Chocolate Milk is always good sounding on whatever sound source. We use Chocolate Milk all over the place on our mixes. Sometimes it’s just what the drum bus needs. Dial up a bit of MOO and move the lower crossover to focus in on exactly the lows you’re missing.
It’s a one plugin bass signal chain—MOO the lows, SQUISH the middle for punch and pull the high crossover down and add a touch of FROTH to get better articulation.
It can make a lead vocal stand out a bit with a little SQUISH and some FROTH. Crush the mids with SQUISH, pull down MOO and FROTH and dial back DRY/WET to add a low-fi midrange hump.

How Does It Emulate Tape Better?

Low-End Saturation
MOO is a proprietary waveshaping process that adds harmonics that thicken and add definition to the low end. Because the effect is applied only to the lows, you get control and enhancement without artifacts. The result is a rich, MOOsical bottom end.
Midrange Compression
SQUISH is a fully adjustable compressor that works strictly on the midrange, between the MOO and the FROTH. Get punch and sustain without touching the lows or crimping the highs.
High-End Sparkle
FROTH recreates a vintage Baxandall EQ through precise analog modeling, solving the circuit in real time. It delivers silky, natural high-end enhancements, adding air and gloss without introducing any harshness.

I didn’t want to make another tape emulation… that road is well traveled. What I DID want was something that gave me the vibe — warmth, compression, sparkle — but without being bound to the physics of analog tape. Just the good stuff. The result just made things sound better. More musical. So I kept using it. Even after a year of tinkering, it still hasn’t worn off.
Chocolate Milk is essential. I recently put it on a rough mix which I liked for its musical content, but this rough had a certain boxiness and upper midrange pain factor.” In a couple of minutes I turned the rawest punk rock live show cassette into smooth makeout music. well, in terms of spectral balance at least. In the case of my rough, it now sounds a lot more like music!
I love Chocolate Milk! It has not left my bass chain since I tried it. It gives a glue-like tape saturation and compression without taking anything away – like Hi-Fi Tape. With no latency it’s on my live bass rig as well, and that Froth knob on slaps and pops is salted butter.

Really good on the mixbus
Doesn’t hit quite like other tape-ish emulations seem to. Moo and Froth can be very subtle until they’re not. I’ve had the most luck with the mid Squish. Recently on a bus it gave me that exaggerated 70’s TV compression sound – which was exactly what I was going for!
I don’t get it. I’ve tried it on electric bass and drum buss and wasn’t satisfied in either application. I’m not sure I know what it does. It’s weird to me that the meat of the plugin is on the “back panel” so to speak. Why not put all the band splitting stuff on the front panel and make the current front panel the back panel adjustments? There’s probably a great reason for not doing that but I wouldn’t know it cuz I just don’t get it. I don’t think it’s ever made it to a final mix. Micro Reverb and Pawn Shop comp get used on literally every mix because they’re phenomenal and easy to use. I’m also really enjoying the new eq. Sitral?
Very useful enhancement plugin with tons of options, you can be subtle or you can go all the way. You can really make things pop easily with chocolate milk. It’s amazing this plugin is so inexpensive.

5 Stars litterally just for the interface and name. Not my top used plug from Korneff but I still dig it! Can’t go wrong with any of their plugins.
It won’t replace your surgical EQs, but for adding immediate life, warmth, and analog character to a track or a drum bus, this thing is brilliant. Another fantastic tool from Korneff.

I don’t know exactly what this plugin is doing under the hood but when I use it on a track and I dial it in correctly, the instrument just sounds better. Usually it has more punch.
Fast and easy sweetener. Helps to open up sounds. But I mean it´s really flexi and creative too with the 3 band optional phase reverse. Super handy and creative tool!
Overall it sounds pretty solid! Personally, the whole “cheeky parameter names, fun cartoon gui etc” style of plugin just isn’t my cup of tea. I don’t find myself using it very often as I tend to reach for hyper-specific tools in the moment vs something a bit more abstract. Regardless I appreciate that you have a bit of something for everyone. For me the W295, Level Loc, AIP, and Echoleffe are all 6 out of 5 stars!
Not appropriate for every source, but when it’s a fit…it’s stunning.
Great tool for a little premastering, but once your mix is balanced I feel it too dramatic.
Been using it to sweeten up lead sax and flutes. The squish function works nice to hold their high mid peaks when its blown really hard. The low sat helps to make them warm and solid in place.
For me it takes a bit long to load and open an instance of the plugin, that’s all.
Chocolate Milk is great as the last insert on the mixbuss. Adds the perfect analog sounding thump to the low end from MOO and a fantastic punch from SQUISH ..especially brilliant for rock ..cheers to Dan and Co!
Not something I use super much. I like it most on some bass recordings.
Believe it or not, with Chocolate Milk I can give an ancient, broken snare that sounds like a jazz drummer has been scrubbing the head with his brushes for a whole century, a massive boost, instantly revive it, and make it sound so punchy and massive that it fits into any damn rock or heavy mix. My old friend and professional sound engineer Michael “Albe” Albedyhl once told me, “You can’t turn shit into gold!” This actually very wise rule only applies to a limited extent anymore. Because Chocolate Milk can do just that!
Another brilliant plugin from Korneff, capable of polishing everything to perfection.
I like it a lot! So far I’ve used it on overly bright instruments and samples. Like sampled horns and it tames the top end in a great way. Few times on drums too. It was used on my most recent record release! I’m not an engineer per say so I can’t comment on what it actually does.
Just like real chocolate milk, this plugin is smooth, rich, and somehow makes everything taste better. However, unlike real chocolate milk, I can put this on every mix and not feel guilty. Simply put, Korneff Audio’s Chocolate Milk adds thickness, sweetness, and just the right amount of indulgence. My mixes are gaining weight, and I’m okay with it.

It’s a better-izer that I reach for often. You don’t always hear what it’s doing when using more subtle settings, but you certainly notice how flat and lackluster the track sounds without it. Great plugin!
A deceptively useful tool. It has saved time in many mixes on any instrument. The multiband structure allows for control, taming sound sources, even in dramatic fashion, without crushing the source. I tend to lean most heavily on controlling the low and mids with this tool.
Great plug-in. Used it on a percussion track today. I especially like the crossovers. Skyypilot says “Rock On!” Another fine one, Dan!!!
Chocolate Milk has quickly become the “go to” on my drum bus. It brings energy and excitement to midi drums. It really glues the whole kit together and it makes it feel less like just a collection of samples.
Chocolate Milk also sounds great on the mix bus to bring it all together at the end.

This is a super cool plugin that adds thickness, color, and control to any audio source. I have found it to be super useful on low frequency sources, such as kick and bass, but you can also dial in some tasty goodness with snares, toms, and brass.

Since getting Chocolate Milk, I’ve used it numerous times, including all over a live jazz album I mixed and mastered this Spring. I prefer using it subtly to bring out the fullness of a track. Dan is spot on when he calls it a ‘gooderizer’. Chocolate Milk is one of my new favorite go-to plugins for nearly everything now!
Chocolate Milk is my mix buses new best friend! I really dig the saturation and mid SQUISH compression that helps package up the middle of a mix real nice!

I bought Chocolate Milk because I wanted an alternative to tape saturation. Like all other Korneff plugins, it delivers. I don’t know what it does exactly, but it does it well. Makes everything sound better.

Love it – useful on so much more than bass and I love the mid compressor – typical Korneff build and attention to detail and you even get a free cow!
Its simple and direct action on bass and treble is perfect. By bringing out the details in the midrange, it reminds me of a multiband compressor because of the punch and clarity it infuses into the mix. I don’t know of any other plugin quite like it…which gives it a special place.
