A great room deserves a great console.
The classic Sunset Sound was the room, and the Sound Techniques console.
The Rarest of the Rare
Sunset Sound Studio Two opened in 1967. It was built around a Sound Techniques A-Range® console—the first English recording console in the United States. Many of the greatest records of all time were made with it.
It had great bass response, wonderful separation, and a beautiful EQ. The Sound Techniques was a big reasons that Sunset Sound became a world wide destination for artists from around the world.

Tutti Goes to England
Sunset founder Tutti Camarata recorded in London frequently. While there, he met Geoff Frost, who owned a studio, Sound Techniques, and built his own equipment. He started making consoles for other studios in London, consoles he called the A Range. Tutti purchased one and shipped it to the US. It was the first English recording console in the United States.
The Sound Techniques becomes THE SOUND
The Sound Techniques console sounded great — so much so that artists began booking Studio Two specifically for the console and the reverb chamber. The reverb was rich and articulate; the Sound Techniques had great low end and separation, and Sunset Sound had a low-key, let's get it done vibe.
The Doors, Alice Cooper, Bonnie Raitt, Dave Mason, Earth Wind & Fire, Jackson Browne, James Taylor, Led Zeppelin, Leon Russell, Little Feat, Ray Manzarek, Ringo Starr, Rolling Stones, Frank Zappa.
Studio Two was the place to make a record.
We captured THE SOUND
First we had to track down the last remaining Sound Techniques module from that era. Then we captured the room using it, and a few other modules, and a gaggle of classic microphones. Because who wouldn't want reverb recorded with the mic into which Janis Joplin sang "Oh Lord, won't you buy me, a Mercedes Benz?"
Then we modeled a complete Sound Techniques return for the reverb signal—because the iconic sound of Sunset isn't just the chamber. We added gating and compression— not on the original, but this has to work for producers today, not just sound like 1967.
The result is a precise recreation of Sunset Sound Studio Two with the original Sunset Sound reverb chamber. Like the Sound Techniques module, there's only this plug-in, Sunset Sound Chamber One.
